The Marine Corps turns 233 years old today. Marines everywhere a celebrating their birthday today, or have celebrated this past weekend. There is a dinner, dancing and celebrating everything that makes us Marines, including a message from our commmandant. The cake is usually escorted out by Marines and is cut with a service sword. The Marines are all in their Dress Blues and their spouses are dressed in formal attire. We celebrate The Few, The Proud, the United States Marines. Since Steve and I are not near a base, we decided to celebrate with our coworkers. We each brought a cake in and shared the tradition that makes our birthday special. Semper FI.
"I love the Corps for those intangible possessions that cannot be issued: pride, honor, integrity, and being able to carry on the traditions for generations of warriors past. Cpl. Jeff Sornig, USMC; in Navy Times, November 1994 "
